About us

St Margaret'sThe Parish of St Margaret of Antioch and St Clement, Ilford came into being in November 2002.  It was formed by uniting the former separate parishes of St Margaret of Antioch and St Clement.  The parish covers the north eastern part of Ilford, a largely residential area but also including part of the town centre.

St Margaret’s Church was built to a design by Edwin T. Dunn and consecrated on 10 October 1914.

St Clement’s was consecrated on 20 June 1896. The church was built in response to the growing population of Ilford.  It was a large Victorian building with seating for over 1000.

The church was declared redundant and demolished in 1977, when the congregation moved to a worship centre built on the upper level of the Cecil Hall, a building opened in 1908 as a parish hall.  Worship ceased here in July 2003 to be concentrated at St Margaret’s, and the Cecil Hall was subsequently sold.

St Margaret’s stands within the liberal Catholic tradition of the Church of England.  We aim for dignified worship and a critical engagement with Christianity in the 21st Century.  The PCC has produced a mission statement as a summary of the ethos of the church and our aim as a Christian community.
